From Other Spaces

From Other Spaces was an interactive performance inviting audiences to paint freely and spontaneously on one side of a glass display while I painted on the other. With no rules and no expectations, the work became a live collaboration, a conversation made of colour and movement between the community and myself the artist. Accompanying the performance was a painting of two figures striving to connect, communicate, and understand one another. This imagery drew directly from my own journey as a refugee: the longing to belong, the effort to be part of a new community, and the quiet difficulties that accompany that search. Part of Refugee Festival Scotland 2022, this project asked simple but profound questions about integration and belonging.
