How If When

An immersive exhibition by Seif Eddine Jlassi and Mousa AlNana, inspired by the New Syria project, a collection of artworks that was born from the creative expressions of children living in a refugee camp. These drawings offer glimpses into their vision of Syria and how they would imagine home or remember it. The result was a collection of captivating spontaneous artworks, provoking questions difficult to articulate and answers yet to be found. Building upon these artworks and the living situation of the children, we have crafted an experience that recreates the jarring feel of the camp contrasted with a display of the children's tender artworks, placing the audience into their life and experiencing the world through their eyes. We incorporated objects and materials commonly seen in these environments, as we constructed the room to capture the roughness endured by those children with a little bit of hope peeking through their drawings. You are invited to engage actively by drawing and utilising the provided materials to add your vision to become part of the exhibition. While you observe the existing art, challenge yourself to step in and face reality, it can be a rough experience so don’t hesitate. This participatory element aims to make you think that if you are looking for answers, you will not find them here.
